A recent survey of online learning has revealed that there are 5.6 million students in the US who currently participate in at least one web-based course, and this represents a 20% increase from the previous year alone. To meet the increased demand, a growing number of colleges are offering more online degree programs. As the reputation of these online degrees grows, they are attracting more students who may not have considered distance learning before.
Programs that offer a combination of on-campus and online learning have grown in popularity as well. Schools are making an effort to provide more flexibility with these type of programs a growing population of non-traditional students. The universities see this as a way to keep enrolment levels up in a difficult economic environment and so far their investments in the new technology have been paying off.
